Protecting the Vote

Baltimore Sun reader Michael Berla's letter "Our votes are not safe yet" doesn't go far enough. The integrity of the vote will always be a question mark until such time we enact a voter identification requirement at the polls. The fact is, with just the information provided in Mr. Berla's letter, I could easily show up at his polling place early in the morning and place a vote under his name for the candidate of my choice. There's simply nothing to stop me from doing so. Everything I would need to do so is either provided in the letter or available as public record. Let's not pretend the vote is secure when it's obviously not even close. And let's not give too much credit to groups like the League of Women Voters and ACLU, both of whom filed lawsuits seeking to prevent voter identification at the polls. The ACLU and League of Women Voters both invite fraud and chaos to further their left-wing political agenda. So does Martin O'Malley. There's nothing commendable about that.
