Stimulus Bill Myths

It certainly appears that much of the big media seeks to infuse myth, and paint a glowing portrait of the Democrat's stimulus bill. Yet some things can't be denied and should be stated.

The Republicans were not in favor of "doing nothing". They offered a plan half the size of the Democrat's plan, that relied on tax cuts more than spending. The Republicans believe, as many people do, that Americans are fully capable of spending their own money, and that money spent by individual consumers at a wide variety of retail establishments would do more to kick-start our economy than the targeted government spending of the Democrats bill.

The bill was not bi-partisan. Only a few Republicans voted for it, and they had little input.

The bill is not wildly popular among the American people, as the vast majority of letters printed in many "mainstream" newspapers would suggest. The bill is, at best, receiving marginal support, and recent polling suggests that most Americans do not think it will achieve it's stated goal of stimulating the economy.

The Republican response to Obama's speech was right on the mark. How many people would rob their children's or grandchildren's piggybank to pay for the litany of useless causes this bill funds? At a time when folks can't pay their BGE bill, we are borrowing from our children and grandchildren to fund millions of dollars for mice research, arts programs, Hollywood film producers, trial lawyer tax breaks, another billion dollars to fund the census that Obama indicated he wants to control from the White House and billions more for company's and individuals that borrowed and spent irresponsibly.

How utterly ridiculous. This bill is not worth robbing our children for. Pray tell, whom are our children going to take money from when their neighbors are foreclosed on?
