Baltimore Homicides Vastly UnderreportedThe Sun's infatuation with Baltimore's homicide statistics reveals a lack of understanding of the true nature of Baltimore crime. The city of Baltimore routinely classifies 300 or more deaths a year as "undetermined". This is several times more than the rate reported in most similarly sized U.S. cities. It's likely that hundreds of times each year murders are being unreported as such. Given the level of crime statistics padding, something former Governor Martin O'Malley elevated to an art form and got away with during his tenure as mayor, one must ask the question "why"? Why does the Sun continue to report that homicides are down, when in fact the city is classifying dead people however it wants, completely at the whim of the mayor and police commissioner, and classifying deaths as "undetermined" at a rate that is disconcerting for any metropolitan area located in a first world nation? The number being reported by the Sun, while it's perhaps the "official" number, is fudged, at best. All citizens of the US have the means to change their local governments when it's apparent that the government isn't serving the people. Hence, the people of Baltimore have gotten exactly the city they deserve, even if nobody really does know the true number of Baltimoreans who were killed by their neighbors in 2009. This truism is probably the saddest thing of all. Year after year, Baltimorons seemingly cry out for more crime, worse schools and less jobs by voting into office the same anti-business, criminal coddling, NEA beholden incompetents. Year after year after year, more of the same liberal policies that continue to relegate generations of children to squire. Editor - bethesite.com
