Stimulus Bill Not a Jobs Bill

The Maryland Gazette reports that Anne Arundel County stands to gain 275 jobs from the Obama stimulus bill. Time for some quick math.

The stimulus bill will cost about 1 trillion dollars, once the interest is accounted for. This works out to $3000 for every man, woman and child in the nation.

The estimated census population of Anne Arundel County in 2007 was 512,124 people. Hence, the citizens of Anne Arundel County will contribute 1.5 billion dollars towards the stimulus package.

If we divide the 1.5 billion dollars we will contribute by the 275 jobs we stand to gain, the citizens of Anne Arundel County will be paying $5,587,000 for each job. That's right, over 5 million dollars per job gained by the County.

Why the disparity? It's simple. The stimulus bill isn't designed to create jobs. It's nothing more than a gargantuan spending initiative designed to pay back core Democratic Party supporters. Groups like ACORN, the NEA, the big union bosses, long-term welfare moms, environmental extremists and other members of the Democratic Party base are the real intended beneficiaries.

People who bought houses they couldn't afford will reap large benefits, as will people who didn't save for their child's college education.

Greedy CEO's and illogical unions will benefit greatly. States that are able to entice more people onto the welfare rolls are now eligible to tap into a multi-billion dollar fund set up for that purpose, because the stimulus package rolls back the welfare reform initiatives of the Clinton Administration. Now, the more you can sign up on welfare, the more you are rewarded.

The stimulus bill wasn't designed to benefit the hard working, fiscally conservative morally upright people of Anne Arundel County. And it wasn't designed to create jobs. It's payback time to the Democratic base, and you're paying for it.
