Health Reform Facts vs. Fiction

The current "Health Reform" debate is full of misfacts and misinformation.

The "47 million people without health insurance" figure has been proven to be inflated. This number takes into account 10 million illegal aliens, 17.6 million uninsured who live in households earning more than $50,000 a year, 9 million of whom live in households earning more than $75,000 per year, and the millions more who are covered by Medicaid but don't report it, a phenomenon know as " Medicaid undercount”. Our health care system can't be designed to provide free medical care for every human being who can drive, walk, crawl or swim across our border, or to provide insurance for those who can afford it but don't wish to pay for it.

Also, Obama's health care plan does not require tort reform, primarily because the trial lawyers association is among the largest contributors to the Democratic Party. The current tort system forces doctors and hospitals to request millions of unnecessary tests each year, a process known as "covering your behind". This needs to be changed.

Lastly, the letter writer and others point out that folks who are happy will be able to keep their current insurance. That may be true, but they'll also be paying for the new government insurance plan. They'll pay via higher taxes, and they'll pay via lower paychecks and higher consumer goods prices, both the result of the gargantuan business tax Obama's going to levy to pay for the government plan.

Our system is the best in the world. People from around the globe stand in line to come here. Let's continue to improve it, but let's leave it for our children. We've already left then a mountain of debt, let's not leave a Motor Vehicle Administration type government health care system
