New Addition to List of Intellectually Forgettable Marylander'sMr. Harris Factor's letter appeared in the Baltimore Sun on 17 April 2009 under the title "Tax protesters just sore losers". In the letter, Mr. Factor rails against Tax Party attendees because, in his mind, "Arguing over the rates or amounts of the taxes is fine. Protesting against the principle of paying taxes is not". Mr. Factor then goes on to accuse the protesters of having a "lack of understanding" regarding tax issues. The irony in this is that it's Mr. Factor who clearly has a lack of understanding of the tax protest, and pins his entire letter on that misunderstanding. The protest was orchestrated by an organization called Freedomworks.org. As per the Freedomworks website, the organization is striving for lower taxes, not an elimination of taxes, which would make the protest by Mr. Factor's own criteria a "fine" cause to promote and a "fine" event to attend. Freedomworks.org even has the statement "Lower taxes" as part of their insignia motto. Mr. Factor clearly had it wrong. Which makes it so regrettable that he followed his misinformation by uttering "let's not dignify these "tea party" participants by making them seem to be responsible citizens protesting against an oppressive government. They're not". His fantasy then continues with accusations of the Tea Party attendees being sore losers, among other things, all based on Mr. Factor's misunderstanding that the protesters wanted to eliminate taxes and eliminate the federal government. Letters written by left-wing radicals typically take 3 or 4 minutes to pick apart. This one took 90 seconds. Fortunately for us, this letter writer had already talked himself into a state of confusion long before he started typing. Because it's Spring Break and we're feeling a bit lazy, we admittedly picked an easy target this time. Mr. Harris Factor not only confused himself but was determined to display his confusion in a public forum for the rest of the state to ridicule. Factor also illustrated an inability to grasp that many patriotic Americans of all persuasions want to limit the government's gutwrenching spending, are rightfully concerned with the concept of placing a monstrous debt burden on our children and grandchildren, and yet do not want to completely abolish taxes or destroy the imperative services provided by the government. He doesn't grasp that it's wrong for him to spend his childrens and grandchildrens money. In fact, he appears to relish in it, and to have a distaste for those who don't want to spend their kid's money like drunken sailors in port. Mr. Harris Factor is not our most devious target, nor the most powerful. He's just an easy one, and hey, it's Spring, so picking on a guy who appears to be one french fry short of a Happy Meal can be, well, forgiven. For the above infractions Mr. Harris Factor has joined our list of Intellectually Forgettable Marylander's. Editor - bethesite.com
